The crossroads of the humanities

IU’s innovative Comparative Literature department is one of the most comprehensive in the United States. Our faculty and students integrate interdisciplinary study to investigate and compare literature, film, visual arts, and music throughout moments in history and in geographic locations around the world.

Our programs

We offer an undergraduate B.A. as well as minors in Comparative Arts and in Comparative Literature, which pair well with many majors. Graduate students have three options for obtaining a master’s degree: a master of arts (M.A.); a dual degree with Library Science (M.A./M.L.S.); and a master of arts for teachers (M.A.T.). We also have an extensive doctoral program that provides considerable freedom in the choice of courses and research topics.
