A Ph.D. minor in Comp Lit is designed to support areas of special interest in your major field.
The minor requires at least four courses in Comparative Literature, including C501, “Introduction to Graduate Studies in Comparative Literature.” Students must also demonstrate a fluent reading knowledge of at least one foreign (non-native) language.
No examination is required for the minor, but a member of the Comparative Literature faculty must serve on your dissertation committee, unless the Comparative Literature department waives this requirement.

The departments of English and Comparative Literature jointly administer the minor in Literary Theory. This minor requires a minimum of three courses, including at least one from a list of specified options in Comparative Literature and one from a similar list of options in English.
It is also possible to complete an intensive minor in Literary Theory. This requires a minimum of six courses. Additional courses may be chosen from theory-oriented offerings in the Departments of French and Italian, Germanic Studies, Slavic Languages and Literatures, Spanish and Portuguese, and Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance.
