Answer: No, there are no length requirements for the writing sample.

Answer: Domestic applicants should submit the following application materials to the Graduate Studies Office of the Department of Comparative Literature: completed application, three (3) letters of recommendation, all relevant transcripts, statement of purpose, and writing sample.
- For international applicants, what items need to be submitted directly to International Admissions?
Answer: International applicants should submit the following application materials directly to International Admissions: completed application for admission, all relevant transcripts, and financial information. The following materials are to be submitted to the Graduate Studies Office of the Department of Comparative Literature: three (3) letters of recommendation, statement of purpose, TOEFL score, and writing sample.

Answer: No, all applicants are considered for financial aid if their application and application materials are received on or before the relevant deadline(s).
- May my recommenders send their letters of recommendation directly to the Department of Comparative Literature? Is there a special form recommenders should use?
Answer: Yes, your recommenders may submit their letters of recommendation by email (complit@iu.edu) or by postal services. However, it is preferred that recommenders use online submission through the application portal, if possible.
- May I submit my statement of purpose or writing sample directly to the Graduate Studies Office of the Department of Comparative Literature?

- Do you accept applications for admission year round?
Answer: The Department of Comparative Literature only accepts applications each fall semester.
- When will I be notified with a decision about my application?
Answer: Normally, applicants may expect a decision between mid February and March. To inquire about the status of your application or application materials please contact Graduate Services via e-mail (complit@iu.edu).
- Are photocopies of my test scores (e.g., TOEFL) accepted?
Answer: Only original test scores are accepted. No photocopies, please.
- Are photocopies of transcripts accepted?
Answer: Only original transcripts in sealed envelope(s) from the degree granting institution are accepted. Again, no photocopies are accepted.
