Adesokan's First Issue of Black Camera Published

Friday, January 23, 2026

Cover of the 17.1 issue of "Black Camera: An International Film Journal". The cover has a purple background, blue text, and includes a photo of an African woman looking at the camera while carrying a baby on her back.

Black Camera: An International Film Journal published its first issue with Comparative Literature Professor Akin Adesokan as its editor-in-chief. The Fall 2025 issue features close-ups of two diasporic Black female filmmakers, the French-Guadeloupian Sarah Maldoror and the Afro-Cuban Sara Gómez.

Adesokan is the first person to take over leadership of the journal since it was founded by Professor Michael T. Martin in 2009. Black Camera is an international scholarly journal that is a platform for the study and documentation of the black cinematic experience in the world.
